FAQs

Frequently Asked Questions.
Here’s just a few of the more common questions we get asked.

What goes into manufacturing Fans? – The design

Indrotech specialize in designing and manufacturing industrial fans tailored to specific air conditions, such as clean or dirty air, hot or cold air, or ambient air. If the customer doesn’t provide a system design, which is the pressure requirements and the air requirements we engineer it. To do this we often go on-site to identify issues, like weak foundations causing vibrations. Then it’s everything on top of that, the pedestal design, the casing design, the impeller design, the shaft design, the bearing design, the drive design, select the motor in order for it not to overload as everything has to work.

What goes into manufacturing Fans? – The building of the Fan

Following the design phase, we compile all components for the fan, whether it’s a belt drive or direct drive, meeting the customer’s requirements. If it is a belt drive, there are a lot more than moving parts. For direct drives they have a motor attached, we carefully consider various factors. In this case the pillar connects directly to the motor, enclosed by the casing, and the impeller casing is examined. Proper design of the pedestal is crucial to prevent shaking and ensure sturdiness, especially when the motor spins at high speeds like 3000 R.P.M. The pedestal must handle this revolution range with the substantial impeller on the shaft. We also address the impeller’s weight to prevent shaft breakage and ensure it can withstand the tip speed, in linear terms reaching up to 100 meters per second. The impeller needs to strike a balance, being strong enough to endure these forces without buckling or damaging surrounding components.

What goes into manufacturing Fans? – Balancing

Balancing is a very important part of it. And we have it in-house, it’s all here. We have a facility and the luxury of balancing the impeller on its own and shaft belt drive that goes with it. And if it’s a direct drive, we take the motor apart and we balance the rotor. We often find that the rotor of the motor is out of balance. That’s the extent to where we go. That’s why when the customer rings up and says their fan is vibrating, we can show them what the issue is with the with 2 balancing certificates. In any other circumstance you would subcontract and send it off to someone else to balance. With us all the components are perfectly aligned and balanced because we have the capacity to do so. We balance the impeller and rotor separately and as an assembly, ensuring the fan operates without vibration upon reassembly. Our expertise allows us to address vibration issues, because we issue the balancing certificates. This is all done in-house at our factory in Hallam. There is no subcontracting, something very rare in our industry.

Can you fix a fan?

Yes. We can replace the shaft if it needs replacing, we can replace a motor. We can replace the bearings. In other words, repair the complete unit. Everything associated with that particular unit that you have; we analyse it, and we can rectify it.

Can you repair a driveshaft?

Yes. However, we suggest that you buy new one. This is often the most efficient and quickest way to have your driveshaft returned. There are many areas that can go wrong with a driveshaft such as universal joint parts and yoke damage, and you can’t just replace a new universe.

What goes into Manufacturing a driveshaft?

Manufacturing a driveshaft involves a meticulous engineering process, especially when a client seeks one for a specific horsepower. Key variables include the engine, transmission, car model, differential, wheels, and tyres. Further considerations, such as length and the gap between the differential and gearbox, are vital.

The process begins with selecting the appropriate series of universal joints and determining the tube diameter based on torque capacity, often favouring genuine DANA products for their specifications. Material choices, including cast or billet, introduce metallurgical structure variables. Tube diameter and material selection (carbon steel or Chrome Moly Tubing) impact performance, with careful attention to wall thickness to prevent whip or critical speed issues. Designing the weld thickness ensures the tube’s torque capacity. The final steps involve straightening and balancing. Quick answers are avoided due to the precision needed, as providing an incorrect response may have serious consequences, including legal liability in case of failure.

Can you balance a fan even if it's vibrating?

If it is round and it spins yes, we can balance it, provided that we can it can we can spin it on our machines. In fact, in doing so we can find out the real issue to your vibrating problems. A fan is located in areas that have multiple components surrounding it. By looking at every item we can identify the problem. For example, It might not necessarily be the fan itself; the vibration could be originating from the enclosure or its attachment point.

What do I do if my fan is vibrating?

When you contact us take pictures. Pictures are so important. That way we can see how the machine is set up, what is its surrounding, what is it connected to. That’s important if we simulate the conditions of the original installation.

What machinery does Indrotech have in its factory?

We have 5 Balancing machines their capacity is:
The H10 small, intricate componentry, up to 400 grams in weight to a standard of G 0.4, that’s for high rotation componentry. like turbo impellers turbochargers. They go very fast 30,000 RPM. Complete with Schenk Measuring units
The H20 there’s up to 100 kilograms. We can put 100 kilograms. Down to G 0.4, which is very rare for that machine. We do have G 2.5 normally on that machine and that’s heavier units, more agricultural but high rotating. Complete with Schenk Measuring units
The H4 which does up to three tonne six meters long up to 1.2 metres diameter. As low as G 1. We can go G 0.4, but you don’t need to. The size up to three meters in length, 1.2 in diameter and to 3Tonne. balancing up to 3-piece driveshafts. But we do 4-piece drive shots with a bit of trickery. Complete with Schenk Measuring units

What Balancing measuring units does Indrotech have?

Our Schenck balancing measuring units are unique to the Australian market. The Schenck CAB 820 measuring unit. The CAB 820 is our latest basic measuring unit. Our CAB 820 is best suited to modernize older horizontal and vertical balancing machines. All of our balancing machines have this state-of-the art measuring technique.

What can Indrotech balance?

Anything that rotates and anything that rotates at high speed, which is why we are called Indrotech which is an abbreviation of “Industrial Rotational Technology”.

What industries do you currently balance for?

We service these industries:

  • Industrial Fan Manufacturers
  • Power generation
  • Pulp and paper mills
  • Printing rollers and drums
  • Steel mills
  • Motor repairers
  • Automotive and trucking
  • Electric Motor Rewinders
  • Food processing
